Last week I was playing around with what I had in my kitchen and trying to satisfy an odd craving and came up with this twist on the classic grilled cheese:
Blackberry Grilled Cheese
cooking spray
whole wheat bread, 2 slices
part-skim mozzarella (other other cheese of preference)
handful blackberries
green onions, chopped from one stalk
Heat pan (or electric grill) over medium high heat. Spray with cooking spray. Assemble sandwich as follows: bottom layer bread, then cheese, green onions, blackberries, top with bread. Smoosh to get the blackberries to spread with your hand or spatula. Place sandwich on pan, cook for a few minutes then flip (carefully). Cook on other side until cheese is melted. Enjoy!
I paired this with a handful of hazlenuts and a side of cottage cheese. It rounded out to a very delicious little meal. Enjoy! An odd combo brings in a great mix of flavors

I love the way this sounds! Growing up my dad would always put a dollop of grape jelly on our grilled cheese sandwiches, people think it sounds disgusting, but i love it. I love the way the sweet and the savory go hand in hand! thanks for sharing.
1Interesting. I do love blackberries!
2Using jam is a great idea if I'm ever in a pinch and craving something like this. Your dad sounds like a wise man
3my mom is currently grocery shopping, & i added blackberries to the list after reading this recipe- im thinking it'll be good for lunch tomorrow!
4This is cool.
5Ok, so I did end up trying this- it's amazing! But rather than using actual berries, I suggest using blackberry jam. You can spread it evenly and the taste just comes through better.
