It never occurred to me before to cut scallions on the diagonal, but look at how cool they look! Just hold them together as a bunch and use a deep diagonal cut to slice off the ragged tops... then continue on down from there.
Cut on the diagonal, they add a interesting look to recipes and make a really pretty garnish!
